CALLOUS thieves broke into an elderly couple’s home at Warrington, ransacked the property and made off with cash and jewellery of great sentimental value.
The raid took place while the couple were at St Rocco’s Hospice, where one of the victims is currently receiving specialist care.
Police are appealing for help from the public following the burglary which is believed to have taken place sometime between 11am and 2.45pm on Monday in the Winifred Street area.
The offenders appear to have broken into the property via a window at the rear of the address; once inside they conducted an untidy search and stole a number of items, including a quantity of cash and jewellery.
DC Vicky Goodwin said: “Burglary, no matter who you are, is a traumatic event in most people’s lives and cannot be underestimated.
“In this case it is compounded by the fact that the one of the victims is currently suffering from ill health and at the time the heartless thieves raided their home they were receiving specialist support at St Rocco’s care centre.
“The couple have been deeply distressed by this incident as many of the items that were stolen from the address were of sentimental value
including two pairs of gold earrings, a gold T-Bar necklace and a watch which was given to the victim as a present from his children for his 80th birthday.
“I’d appeal to anyone who has any information in relation to this incident to contact us on 101 so that we can reunite the victims with their possessions and bring those responsible to justice.”
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 539 of 1/8/16. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
