A MAN is to appear in court charged with fraud and theft following a “shoulder surfing” incident at Warrington.
The man, from the West Midlands area, targeted an elderly couple while they were shopping at Birchwood and later at their home address.
As they used a cash dispensing machine at Birchwood, the offender is alleged to have spied on them to obtain their PIN number and password – a practice known as “shoulder surfing.”
He is then alleged to have followed them to their home and stolen their card which he then used to carry out a series of transactions to the value of £350.
A police spokesman said: “A neighbour of the victims spotted suspicious behaviour, alerted the victims so they could cancel their cards and was also able to give a line of enquiry as to the vehicle allegedly used during the offence.”
The alleged offender will appear in court at the end of August charged with one offence of theft and eight of fraud.
