Travellers ignore council notice to quit Victoria Park

3

TRAVELLERS who have set up an illegal encampment on Victoria Park, Warrington, have ignored a council notice to vacate the site within 24 hours.

Various vehicles including white vans and caravans and a couple of branded roofing repair vehicles arrived on the car park at Victoria Park at the weekend.

They were served with a council notice to vacate the land by lunch time today but are still on site.

Warrington Borough Council will now seek a court order to move them off the land, which could take several days.

There are believed to be four different groups of travellers operating in and around the Warrington area.

  1. Obvious that would happen as they will be aware that the Wilderspool lot got away with ignoring their 24 hour notice too. They were there for 10 days and simply moved off the day before the council were due to finally obtain the needed court order. WHY does it take several days to get a court order and how much do they cost ? Can’t the council get a blanket court order like other counils have done?
Maybe a precedent has now been set and they will ALL start ignoring the 24 hour notices.

  2. Bemused of Warrington on

Tonight I read with dismay the Warrington Guardian’s news story reporting about the same blatant disregard for the 24 hour notice to leave. As usual regarding issues relating to illegal traveler encampments in the borough they, the Warrington Guardian, appear to have yet again removed the facility for people to comment or ask questions. So much for freedom of speech on their part !
However, the Guardian did state that Warrington Borough Council will now be applying to Halton Magistrates’ Court for a court order to evict the group from the land.
Why does Warrington Council have to apply to Halton for a court order when we have our own County Court on Legh Street, just a short walk from WBC’s very own Town Hall ?
