MP honoured by government appointment

AFTER believing he was destined to be on the back benches in government Warrington South MP David Mowat says he is “honoured” to be a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health.

Mr Mowat is the first Warrington MP to hold his own ministerial portfolio, although some parts of south Warrington formed part of the Runcorn constituency when it was held by the then Secretary of State for Education Mark Carlisle.

In his new role which has formally been approved by the Queen, Mr Mowat will be responsible for social care and older people.

Mr Mowat said: “I’m delighted and honoured to have been asked to join the Government and the new team at the Department of Health.

“There are huge challenges ahead, both for the NHS and our care services, as we deal with the effect of a population which is growing older.”
