MOTORWAY police officer Ian Blanchard enjoyed a trip to the Palace of Westminster – courtesy of Warrington North MP Helen Jones.
Ian was the Cheshire Police nomination for “Brave Police Officer of the Year” and he and his wife, Katie, were invited to Parliament by the MP.
They were accompanied by Simon Roberts, chairman of the Cheshire Police Federation as they met the MP for a tour of the Palace of Westminster and a drink on the Commons Terrace. During their visit they met new Prime Minister Theresa May.
Ian risked his life in July last year when rescuing a vulnerable woman from being run over by a HGV when she was walking across the carriageway between Junction 9 of the M62 at Winwick and the M6 turnoff during peak morning traffic.
Ms Jones said: “It was a great pleasure to meet Ian, Katie and Simon and I hoped they enjoyed their visit.
“Ian’s bravery reminds us of the risks police officers take every day to keep us safe and we should all be grateful to them.”
During their visit to London, Ian, Katie and Simon attended a reception at Downing Street and in the evening went to The Dorchester Hotel for the awards ceremony.
