Bank Quay Bulls 18 Latchford Albion 26

LATCHFORD consolidated second spot in division 1 following a hard fought victory in a feisty derby game at Bank Quay Bulls.
Credit must go to the Bulls whose performance belied their current league position and it was the hosts who opened the scoring with a converted try within the opening exchanges’ However the
scores were soon level when Dave Yii dummied his way over from close range with Sam Dobson converting.
The only other score in a tight first half came from the Bulls with a second converted try to leave the half time score 12 – 6.
As in the first half, Bank Quay started well after the interval and increased their lead with a further converted try.
However Latchford refused to lie down and the impressive Chris Nicholas barged his way over despite the attentions of three defenders. Dobson duly converted.
On 55 minutes the game flared up following a high tackle and following the ensuing brawl Albion’s Danny Brown and the Bulls’ Dane Evans were both dismissed for fighting.
This seemed to spark Latchford into life and they began to enjoy a good spell of possession and territory and on the back of this a well placed kick by Connor Muir was followed up by Rick Metcalfe to score out wide and reduce the deficit to two points.
The next score was to be crucial and came the way of Albion when Drew Bradley intercepted a speculative Bank Quay pass and raced 90 yards to score under the posts, Dobson again converting and with time running out the hosts tried to force a pass, which in a carbon copy of
his first try, was intercepted by Drew Bradley who raced the length of the field to seal the victory for Albion.
