THE Sci-Tech Daresbury Family Day is tomorrow – and there’s still time to book to join in the free event.
With the whole of Sci-Tech Daresbury open to the public all day long, and so many activities to enjoy, there will be something for everyone.
Daresbury is home to one of the UK’s world leading science campuses with some of the world’s best scientists and engineers, and as a working science facility it is not usually open to the public.
Tomorrow it will be different, with a wide range of attractions including the Dino Zone – where Rex, the dinosaur will be roaming – and there will be fossil finding, dinosaur bones and lots more about dinosaurs.
Space fans will love the Planetarium Star Show, and afterwards can explore moon rocks and meteorites, build and launch a rocket, shoot balloons in virtual space and take part in the Dry Ice Comet Show.
For robots and Lego fans there will be robot activities for people of all ages, from building Lego Battle Bots, to learning how to programme a robot.
There will also an abundance of cutting edge science facilities to discover.  Visitors will be able to explore one of the most advanced particle accelerators dedicated to cancer therapy research, or the world’s most powerful supercomputing facilities dedicated to industry, where new models of car are designed.
They will also be able to visit one of the most powerful microscopes in the world that formed part of the Nobel Prize winning graphene research and walk through a life-sized, section of the Large Hadron Collider tunnel.
Phill Day, public engagement manager at STFC, and organiser of the event said: “From virtual worlds and lasers, to our huge interactive science fair, Daresbury’s free family day will be an extravaganza of technology fun.  And whether it inspires some younger visitors to become one
of our next generation of scientists or engineers, or whether the whole family just has a fantastic day out, that will be success for us – it’s all about inspiration and fun.”
