New stingball game helps youngsters get active!

A new “Stingball” game is helping youngsters get active thanks to Active Cheshire, the strategic commissioner of sport and physical activity in Cheshire and Warrington.

An initial £10k funding programme will help extend youth activity by introducing the new sport of Stingball® to the region.

Local schools, colleges and universities, as well as youth clubs across Warrington, can all benefit from this extra-curricular funding programme on a first come, first served basis.

Stingball® after-school clubs will be running Mondays-Fridays throughout term time and, at half term and in the summer holidays, teams of young people can take on each other in knockout competitions to find the best team in the area in each age group.

At present, Stingball® can be played in three different age groups – by 6-11 year olds (“Little Stingers”); 12-17 year olds (“Stinger Teens”) and adults from age 18 and over (teams can be all male, all female or mixed).

A recent study done by Sport England revealed the most common reasons young people partake in sports or physical activities to be; meeting new people, to hang out with friends, get in shape, be healthy, to learn new skills or for fun/enjoyment.

Local representative and co-founder of the World Stingball® Association, Phil Smith, says “We believe that the new sport of Stingball® provides all of those benefits and it is being launched right here in
Warrington – it’s exactly what people are looking for. Those who are bored with the gym, or put off by other traditional ways to get active, are looking for something new and fun – and Stingball® definitely fits the bill!”

This particular funding programme offers free training sessions to be delivered by a qualified Stingball® coach to students from Year 8 and above (aged between 11 and 24) in your sports hall, should you wish so, if your students qualify, why not find out more right now by contacting Active Cheshire or the World Stingball® Association on the contact details below.

The World Stingball® Association (UK) is a not-for-profit governing body set up to promote and develop the new sport of Stingball® across the UK, starting right here in Warrington. It is working closely with local companies and local charities, raising their profiles in a fun and unusual way, as well as working with young people and students to help Active Cheshire to get 50,000 more people, more active, more often by 2017 across Cheshire and Warrington.
