WARRINGTON’S first “Business Mayor” Faisal Rashid has raised over £20,000 for his chosen charities during his first month in office.
A delighted Cllr Rashid told members of the full council: “We are honoured to be the Mayor and Mayoress of Warrington and are doing our best to make a difference across the town.
“In our first month of office we have raised over £20,000 for the charity appeal which we are absolutely over the moon with. This would not have been possible without the support from the people of Warrington, residents, businesses and Council members.
“We are extremely grateful for all your support and hope this will continue through our civic year.”
Cllr Rashid added: “It’s always at the forefront of our minds to look after our town and create community cohesion and to bring people together.
“To help encourage this and engage with residents, on 1st July I will be launching FR TV on YouTube – so watch this space!”
Cllr Rashid added that the mayoral achievement awards were well under way and the categories are due to be finalised soon. The first award ceremony is due to take place in September.
His “Circle the Future” was also progressing well. Memberships are now available with members confirmed – INH Brown, Warrington & Cheshire Growth Hub (Blue Orchid) and Knight Finance.
A further 10 businesses have expressed an interest in becoming members of Circle and their applications are currently being finalised.
Cllr Rashid told the council he and the Mayoress have had a very busy four weeks since taking office and had attended some brilliant events, including five in one day!
His four chosen charities for the year are Warrington Disability Partnership, The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, St Rocco’s Hospice and Brainwave.
