Faulty power cables cause traffic chaos

TRAFFIC chaos on Chester Road, Warrington, is being caused by ongoing works to repair a high voltage power cable which supplies the south of the borough.

During the works to repair the fault a further fault was discovered leading to road closures at Gainsborough Road.

The road closures caused lengthy tailbacks along the full length of Chester Road heading out of town last night.

A spokesperson for Warrington Borough Council’s highway’s department said:“Scottish Power have been working on a fault in an underground high voltage cable on Chester Road. Unfortunately they discovered a further fault which led to closures at Gainsborough Road.

“We have instructed Scottish Power to manually operate the temporary signals between 7am and 7pm to ensure the most efficient flow of traffic possible. It is anticipated the work will be completed by tomorrow, Thursday.”
