HOT-on-the-heels of signing a three-year deal with Warrington Wolves, prop forward Mike Cooper has accepted a role with the amateur club where he started his career – Latchford Albion.
Cooper will join Warrington legend Mike Nicholas as a Club Ambassador at Latchford.
He joins Wolves next season after three years “down under” with NRL side St George Illawarra Dragons.
An Albion spokesman said: “Mike was keen to put something into the club where it all started for him.
“Once his NRL and England commitments are complete, Mike will also take an active role within the club utilising his experience to pass onto to players.”
Warrington-born Cooper said: “It’s a huge honour for me to be named as ambassador for Latchford Albion. This is the club that developed me into the player I am today.  I think it’s important to remember the hard work and
dedication that goes in from all the volunteers to create such a great club for local players to develop and enjoy our great sport. They are the real ambassadors for the club.
“Once I return home I am looking to take an active role with the club and will be happy to assist with any coaching or advice I can offer but also I will be looking to create as strong a link as possible between Latchford Albion and Warrington Wolves.”
Albion’s director of Rugby Mike Byron said: “Having known Mike since he was a youngster at the club I was keen to get him involved again upon his return to England.
“Mike and Lee Birchall were instrumental in helping in securing the great facilities we have and offering him a role within the club seemed a natural progression and it is something as a club we are very proud of and is another statement of intent”
