A CULCHETH angler won a gold medal when he took part in the ninth World Angling Championships for Veterans in the Czech Republic.
Harry Billing, who fishes regularly on Partridge Lakes, near Culcheth, also helped the England Veterans team to win the team gold.
He won the individual gold for winning both days of the competition.
It was the second year the England team had taken the gold but they had to fight off a challenge from 14 other nations to retain their title.
Harry said: “The team spent two weeks out there practicing and we really thought we could do well after catching lots of fish.
“I am originally from Manchester, but have spent the last 10 years in Perranporth, Cornwall.
“We recently moved back to Culcheth because of family commitments and we really love living here. The place is great and everybody is so friendly.”
