Latchford Albion 42 Wigan St Patricks 10

LATCHFORD Albion made up for last week’s defeat and consolidated second place in the table with a comprehensive victory over Wigan St Patrick’s at the Victoria Park stadium.
The hosts started the game strongly and within the opening exchanges they took the lead when Joe Clarke followed up Adam Wood’s initial break to score under the posts with Luke Hickman converting.
The lead was extended when Dave Yii showed his experience to intercept a St Patricks, pass and race 40 yards to cross, again Hickman converting. Shortly after,  Yii added another try following a break by Danny Brown.
The pressure continued on the visitors and next to benefit was Connor Muir who dummied his way through as Latchford began to dominate and when Hickman scored and converted Latchford were 28-0 up after only 30 minutes.
The visitors earned some credit when they re-grouped and just before half time scored a well taken try to leave the score at interval 28-4.
Within three minutes of the restart, Latchford’s lead was extended when Ryan Hickman showed great strength to carry three defenders over the line and still manage to ground the ball.
Again St Pats showed great spirit and scored again’ However Dave Levenston restored parity when he crossed out wide and Latchford saved the best until last when a great team move ended when full back Luke Hickman took a great inside ball and found centre Craig Woolvine in support with Muir taking over kicking duties to add the extras on a solid team performance.
This Wednesday sees local rival Rylands Sharks visit in the semi final of the Warrington Cup when a bumper crowd is expected.
