Lymm May Queen Festival hit by downpour

VIDEO: THE annual Lymm May Queen Festival parade was hit by a torrential downpour just as it set off from the Lymm Hotel.

As Town Crier Peter Powell launched proceedings the heavens opened with a persistent downpour which caused localised flooding.

Mayor of Warrington Cllr Faisal Rashid joined the parade which had a Star Wars theme.

The event was organised by Festival Chairman Steve Harper and set off from the Lymm Hotel and through the village.

The crowning took place on the May Queen field and after the downpour events continued, including a falconry display and fun fair.

This year’s May Queen was Eva Cope, aged 10, a pupil at Cherry Tree Primary School, while Rose Queen was nine-year-old Eleanor Lawton from Ravenbank Primary School.

Reader Kate Harrison sent in this photo of her five-year-old son Will, which captures the spirit of the occasion!

Kate said: “Here’s an epic pic of my son Will Harrison aged 5yrs, who was walking in the Lymm May Queen Parade with Cherry Tree School today… He was a rather soggy Man in Black… It didn’t dampen the atmosphere- what an amazing community atmosphere!”
