VANDALS set fire to a sofa on a grass verge at Bewsey, Warrington last night – one of a series of fires.
Fire crews were called to Edgeworth Street after reports that the sofa was well alight. They used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.
Anyone with information about who started the fire is asked to call police on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers hot line on 0800 555 111.
Earlier, firelfighters were called to Longshaw Street to deal with a fire in a rubbish bin and also to Mill Lane, Winwick Quay, where they used a hose reel jet to extinguish a fire involve a quantity of rubbish.
There were no reports of serious damage at any of the incidents but a fire service spokesman stressed that arson could be dangerous and could also divert fire crews away from more serious incidents.
