POLICE Community Support Officers have carried out a widespread search of play areas in Warrington following the incident when a four-year-old girl and her mother were injured by needles found in a rope swing.
No similar incidents have been discovered but police are continuing with enquiries to identify those responsible – and are asking the public to remain vigilant.
The girl and her mother were injured at the John Keeney play area at Oakwood on Saturday.
A number of needles had been pushed into the rope swing which caused injuries to the girl’s legs. Her mother was injured on the hand when she went to her aid.
The needles were 1-2 inches long and did not have a syringe attached to them.
The mother and daughter were checked over at Warrington Hospital and the incident was reported to police.
Inspector Neil Drum said it was a worrying incident as it appeared the needles had been deliberately pushed into the swing.
He urged anyone with with information to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 764 of May 14.
Parents should remain vigilant, he added.
