Lib Dems claim domination in Warrington South

THE Liberal Democrats now dominate both Warrington Borough Council and the parish councils in the south of the borough, they claim.

This follows the boundary changes and the “all-out” local elections of last week.

Cllr Bob Barr, leader of the Liberal Democrat group on the borough council said: “We are very proud that our approach to grass roots community politics has been rewarded by the voters in Warrington.

“We now hold the 10 Borough Council seats in Appleton, Stockton Heath, Grappenhall and Lymm North and Thelwall with substantial majorities.

“The Conservative’s only seats left on the Warrington Council are the two in Lymm South held on dramatically reduced majorities and there are now no Labour councillors in these borough wards

“Our representation on parish councils, which are becoming more important as the delivery of local environmental services is increasingly devolved from the borough council, is very strong.

“Liberal Democrats hold 42 seats south of the Ship Canal, Labour 5, Independents 4 and Conservatives 4.

“When we are judged on our service to the local community, voters have turned to us in large numbers because they know that Liberal Democrats work hard and keep in touch through local newsletters whether there is an election or not.

“Following the major set-back of last year’s General Election the Liberal Democrat fightback nationally is based on being best at representing our communities. We are delighted that in the south part of Warrington residents have supported us in such large numbers and we are looking forward to continuing to represent them effectively in the Town Hall and at parish councils.”

  1. Today Warrington South…….. tomorrow the world, crikey, perish the thought. Bob shouldn’t get too carried away with himself as per David Skentelbery’s excellent article on turnout, 92% of Warrington’s electorate did not vote Liberal Democrat…..indeed about 65% of Warrington electorate decided that no candidates of any party were worthy of their vote.
