Latchford Albion 21 Golborne Parkside 20

A 78th minute drop goal by Latchford’s Conner Muir sealed a dramatic win and maintained Albion’s unbeaten start to the season at Victoria park Arena.
In a tight game it was the hosts who opened the scoring when Lewis Wightman collected Adam Wood’s clever grubbed kick to cross out wide.
Golborne hit straight back with a converted try before Danny Brown showed skill and pace to race over from 40 yards out, Wightman converting.
A series of unforced errors and a rare lack of discipline invited the visitors back into the game and two quick fire scores had the halftime score reading 10-18.
A stern team talk from coach Lee Smith fired Latchford up and following some good forward play with Morgan Nicholas impressing, the ball was moved out wide where Cameron Davies showed great strength to hold off two defenders and squeeze in at the corner.
On the hour mark Albion finally took the lead when a break by Danny Brown was supported by Ryan Hickman who crossed near the posts, Wightman adding the extras.
Golborne levelled the game on 70 minutes following a penalty for offside and in a tense finale where both teams had unsuccessful attempts at drop goals, it was Muir who stepped up and landed the decisive score.
Redline Recruitment man of the match award went to Stu Simm for a solid game out wide.
This Saturday, Latchford make the long trip to Cumbria where they will face Hindpool. The club is providing free travel and any persons interested please check the club’s Facebook page for more details.
