THE Government’s u-turn on proposed cuts to disability benefits have been welcomed by Labour’s Nick Bent, who described it as a “vital moral victory.”
Mr Bent also congratulated local disability campaigners for their part in successfully challenging the proposed cuts to disability benefits, in particular Dave Thompson MBE, Chief Executive of Warrington Disability Partnership, and a respected independent expert.
Mr Thompson had said the proposed cuts would create “anxiety and fear” amongst thousands of disabled people.
Mr Bent Labour’s Constituency spokesperson for Warrington South, commented: “This is a vital moral victory for all those who want Britain to be a fair and decent society that looks after the sick and disabled.
“I congratulate all those who made their voices heard and forced this Tory u-turn.”
Facebook posts by Mr Bent reached over 42,000 people in the space of a few days.
He said it showed the depth of public feeling on these mistaken cuts.
“This is Warrington Labour’s most successful social media campaign of 2016 so far.
He added: “ It is sad that David Mowat just followed the Tory whips and was on the wrong side of this argument. He should listen to the whips less and his constituents more. ”
