The key things to recruiting the right member of staff

WHAT are the key things you need to do to make sure your next hire is a great one?

Warrington based St John Recruitment Director Ian Mountford explained: “ If you are looking for new staff, follow this guide and finding the next member of your team should be simple.

“Firstly, be very clear on what the role and responsibilities of the new hire will be. Think about ‘what great looks like’ for this role and then use this as a guide as you write. The job description that you create will help you at every stage of the hiring process.

“Next, you have two choices. You can write and place your own advert or you can give people like us – an agency – a call and we can help with your search.

“If you write your own advert, make sure it highlights all the benefits of the job as well as the everyday tasks. Use positive language all the way and use this advert to sell your company at the same time.

“And finally, plan and prepare for interviews in advance. Remember that interviews are all about collecting evidence of the candidate’s ability to do the job so make sure your questions are geared towards finding out the right information.

Ian concluded: “ You need to answer ‘yes’ to these three questions at the end – can they do the job, will they do the job and can we work with them. If these three are all positive, get on the phone and make that offer!”
