WARRINGTON band Viola Beach have entered the singles chart at number 11, less than a week after they tragically died in a car crash in Sweden.
Band members Tomas Lowe, Kris Leonard, River Reeves and Jack Dakin died along with manager Craig Tarry during the early hour sof last Saturday while on tour in Stockholm.
They were all killed when their car plunged more than 80ft from a highway bridge into a canal.
Heart broken family and fans have since been campaigning to get their single Swings & Waterslides to number one in the official singles chart – which has been backed by various celebrity bands and pop stars.
The single reached Number One of the Apple iTunes download chart but has just missed out on the official top 10.
An investigation is still ongoing into what caused the crash.
Claims have been made about faulty warning lights not working properly at the bridge where the accident took place during the early hours of last Saturday – but these have been dismissed by Swedish authorities.
It has been agreed that funds raised from the sale of the single will go to the families
Meanwhile Danish quartet Lukas Graham have stayed at the top of the chart for a second week with their single 7 Years.

It’s so very sad but for them to get to number 11 in the official charts and number 1 in iTunes is lovely and I hope they are looking down and are chuffed and feeling as proud of themselves as their families and the whole of Warrington are. Well done Viola Beach and manager Craig 😀 🙁 x
