PEOPLE are being encouraged to register to vote ahead of three important elections in the town on May 5.

Voters will go to the polls to elect councillors to local government, to elect parish councillors and to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire.

A voter registration day is being held by Warrington Borough Council’s elections team on Friday February 5.

Whole council elections will be held based on the new ward boundaries, as outlined in the final recommendations of the Local Government Boundary Commission.

There will also be elections for councillors for the 17 parish councils in Warrington.

The elections team will be based in Golden Square shopping centre on 5 February and will help people to register to vote on the spot. They will also be able to provide further information on the elections and display a map of Warrington showing the new ward boundaries and polling stations.

Professor Steven Broomhead, Electoral Registration Officer for Warrington, said: “Only people who are registered to vote can take part in May’s elections. People living in Warrington will need to register to make sure they don’t miss out on having their say on polling day.

“Registering is easy. It takes just a few minutes. You can register at our stall on 5 February, between 10am and 4pm, or you can apply online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. You will need to provide your name, address, national insurance number and date of birth.”

“It’s important for eligible residents to register to vote as soon as possible so they will be able to have their say on issues that directly affect their day-to-day lives.”

The deadline to register to vote for the May elections is Monday 18 April 2016.

If you are not sure if you are already registered to vote you can check with the elections team by email [email protected] .
