FIRE crews were called out to tackle an underground blaze at Warrington late last night.
The fire was discovered after clouds of smoke were seen coming from a grid in Avon Road, Culcheth shortly after 10.30.
A cordon was set up around the area as a precaution and a covering jet was used.
But a large plume of smoke burst from the grid causing nearby electrics to blow.
A water spray was used to stop the spread of smoke and a thermal imaging camera was used to check the area.
Electricity company engineers were called to the scene and fire crews from Birchwood gained access to the grid to check the area before leaving.
In another incident, crews from Warrington and Birchwood attended the scene of a road collision involving a car and a van in Gorse Covert Road, Birchwood.
They gave first aid to one casualty who was later taken to hospital by ambulance. Crews made the area safe before leaving.
