Major blaze at canal side caravan park

UPDATED: FIRE investigators are now trying to identify the cause a a major blaze which seven caravans on a caravan park near Warrington today.

The blaze was at Holly Bank Caravan Park, in Warburton Bridge Road, Rixton.

Fire engines from Warrington, Birchwood, Stockton Heath and Manchester tackled the blaze for several hours.

A Cheshire Fire Service spokesperson said five caravans had been badly damaged by fire and two more had suffered heat damage.

Crews removed a number of cylinders from the site and used a thermal imaging camera to seek out dangerous hotspots.

There were no injuries.

Holly Bank Caravan Park is a popular place for residential caravans on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal, close to the Warburton toll bridge.

At this time of the year it is mainly used for storing caravans.
