MOMENTUM is building for a unique event in Lymm to mark the 50th anniversary of the Brazil football team’s stay at the Lymm Hotel in 1966.

As well as a great gallery of rarely seen images and an amazing collection of 1966 world Cup memorabilia there will be a 60s themed buffet with a Brazilian twist provided by the hosts and sponsors The Lymm Hotel.pele-wolstenholme

“The interest in this event just grows and grows” explained Alan Williams who is organising the event on behalf of Lymm Heritage Centre, with “more and more material coming forward”.

Alan added: “Retired local press photographer Eddie Whitham has given us some great images and we have a local barber who cut the team’s hair coming over with his picture collection.   There are even plans for a local samba band to add to the atmosphere. Kari Allen who is the daughter of then hotel manager and well known personality Roger Allen, is making the trip up specially from Essex to be at the opening.”

She said: “My father would be immensely proud at the thought of the anniversary being marked in this way. A big thank you to Lymm Heritage Centre for making it happen. “

The exhibition from Feb 21-24 kicks off with a ticketed Gala opening on Feb 21 at 6pm.   Tickets cost £12.50 from the hotel, Lymm Electric or via the website www.lymmhic.co.uk .

All profits go towards the setting up of Lymm Heritage Centre which recently achieved registered charity status and then continues during the day from Feb 22-24 to allow school groups and the general public to visit.
