Motorway closed after cars crash

THE M6 was completely closed in both directions last night (Sunday) following a two-car crash on the northbound carriageway between junctions 21 and 21a, near Thelwall Viaduct.
No-one was trapped in the incident, which occurred in lane four. But smoke was emitting from one vehicle and there was petrol on the road surface.
Two fire engines from Warrington attended and crews hosed petrol away and made the scene safe.
There were no reports of serious injuries and the motorway is now re-opened.
