Petitioners call for “danger” road to be resurfaced

WORRIED residents have signed a petition calling for a busy stretch of Burtonwood Road, Warrington to be resurfaced because it has become a danger to motor cyclists and cyclists.
The petition to Warrington Borough Council has been organised by the Liberal Democrats and the section of road in question is between the Whittle Avenue/Westbrook Way junction and Boston Boulevard.
Cllr Keith Gleave said: “For a long time I have been asking for this part of Burtonwood Road to be resurfaced because it is in a very poor state and a danger to motorcyclists and cyclists.
“The council has previously refused to do anything because it says it is a rural road.  But it was put on their long list for work.”
Local campaigner Allan Bird added: “We asked residents which road in the area most needed resurfacing and Burtonwood Road was the answer.  The response to the petition was fantastic and we thank everyone who returned a form to us.
“The petition has been sent to the council’s head of highways and we hope that he listens to what local people are saying and takes some action.”
