Care homes to fight loneliness and Make Christmas Magical

NOT-for-profit care services provider CLS is opening its doors this festive season and inviting older people to take advantage of its activity days and daycare services, or even just to drop by for a mince pie and a chat.

CLS operates care homes across the North West, including a number of homes in Warrington: Westy Hall in Latchford, and Holcroft Grange in Culcheth,  and plans to ‘Make Christmas Magical.’

Statistics published by the charity Age UK reveal that 60% of people aged over 65 do not expect festive happiness to be part of their Christmas this year, while nearly 400,000 older people are worried about being lonely at Christmas and 2.5 million over-65s say they are not looking forward to the festive season.

Confronting these statistics head on, CLS is welcoming members of the local community and older people who would like a bit of extra company this festive season to visit any one of its 18 care homes across the North West and get involved in a wide range of activities in the run-up to Christmas.

Staff at the homes are aiming to create magical Christmas memories by bringing together older people and members of the local community to enjoy events including carol singing, hand bell ringing, and traditional Christmas pantomimes.

As a registered charity, CLS Care Services is committed to making a difference to and improving older peoples’ lives this winter. While most of us can hope to enjoy a Christmas filled with warmth, comfort, and companionship, the festive season can be a lonely time of year for many older people.

Sheila Wood-Townend, Head of Services at CLS, commented: “We’re thrilled to be extending a warm welcome to older people in our campaign to Make Christmas Magical. Loneliness can be a serious problem during this time of year, so we encourage anyone who feels alone this Christmas to pop into one of our homes and enjoy one of the many events and activities that we have planned.’
