Council acts to ease traffic chaos

SPECIAL measures are being put in place by Warrington Borough Council in a bid to help ease the traffic congestions which has been causing chaos in the borough this week.
Highways England is carrying out emergency carriageway repairs to a parapet over the link road between the M6 and M56 at junction 20, Lymm.
Potential delays both on the M6, M56 and the Warrington road network can be expected, the council says.
The work on the link road means that overnight it will be completely shut and reduces to a lane one closure at 5am.
The council has suspended all non-urgent highway work until the motorway repairs have been completed, opened additional lanes where possible on Warrington roads and removed some cones and barriers to help traffic flow.
Peel Holdings, who own and operate the Warburton Bridge have also suspended all tolls until Friday to help manage and reduce the impact on the roads.
Highways England have advised that the repair work is likely to last until the end of this week.
A council spokeswoman said: “Residents are advised to check travel information, find alternative routes where possible and take care.”
