FORMER Warrington Collegiate student Liam Sargeant, a former CITB apprentice, is celebrating after winning both Apprentice of the year England and Apprentice of the year Great Britain, at the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Apprenticeship Awards 2015.
Liam aged 20, who is now a trainee site assistant, working at Redrow’s Stretton Green development, joined Warrington Collegiate straight from school, progressing onto a CITB apprenticeship with Redrow Housing.
On winning the award, Liam said, “I’m honoured to receive this award. Being nominated was great, but to win feels fantastic! My apprenticeship has taught me so much and given me a real confidence boost. The opportunity to train while earning a wage makes learning a set of skills a reality and I’d encourage anyone thinking about starting an apprenticeship to give it a go.”
Area Delivery Manager at CITB, Deborah Madden adds, “We appreciate the strong partnership that we have with Warrington Collegiate in delivering apprenticeships.”
Carl Atherton, Lecturer in Brickwork at Warrington Collegiate also says, “Liam was an outstanding student with an excellent knowledge of the subject as well as being a hard worker. He was a popular student with both his peers and staff, impressing us with his positive attitude, commitment and dedication to all aspects of his apprenticeship. He’s also very modest; although he’s done fantastically well in competitions and winning awards, he is someone who simply gets on with doing a fantastic job. He was simply a pleasure to teach.”
