Lymm Heritage Centre project now in full swing

1

PLANS are gathering pace for the conversion of the former Royal British Legion on Legh St into Lymm’s very own Heritage Centre.

New owner Howard Platt has been working with local architects CB3 Design and the Heritage Centre team to come up with a design which would transform the building into an attractive and welcoming exhibition space.

Howard said: “We have a clear vision of how we think the building should look. We believe that it will also give a real lift to this little corner of Lymm while working well in the conservation area.  We have now submitted preliminary drawings to the council for comment before moving forward with a detailed plan.”

In the meantime the Heritage Centre team have been progressing plans for the centre itself.

“It may sound like a cliché” said Chair, Alan Williams “but we really have been on a steep learning curve with this project.  We have come to understand that while the centre itself and its displays will be important, it is also very much about the activities and learning opportunities that such a centre can generate locally. We are keen to work with as many local groups as possible and would welcome their expertise or just their enthusiasm.”

The group have been inviting in specialists to help them explore ideas for the site and had some very positive feedback on the possibilities. They have also received a great response from local writers, graphic designers and website developers keen to participate in such a key community project.

Initial contact has now been established with the Heritage Lottery Fund and the group are starting to formulate their approach to an application for funds for the design and installation of the core exhibition.  Local fundraising will start in the New Year by which time the group hope to have secured charity status.

If you are a member of a group that would like to be involved or affiliated to the centre in any way or if you are an individual with a little time and enthusiasm to offer to the project please get in contact via the website. It’s a  great chance to be part of an exciting new venture that promises to benefit the whole community– www.lymmhic.co.uk  or contact Su Williams on 01925 754080 or 07967 657397
