Firefighters wanted for town’s newest fire station

ON-call firefighters are now being recruited for the new fire station being built at Penketh, Warrington.
Taster events are being held to give potential applicants the opportunity to meet crews, as well as training and recruitment officers, who will explain exactly how to follow the recruitment process.
They will also be able to try out the physical tests in Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s bespoke recruitment pod –  one of only three such test units in the UK that houses the elements needed for the national firefighter recruitment tests.
The taster days are to be held at Green Oaks Way, Widnes WA8 6UA on Friday and Saturday, October 30-31.
Anyone interested can drop in to one of the sessions.
Service delivery manager Sean Henshaw, said: “We’re looking for committed men and women to be part of our on-call crews at the service’s newest fire station’
“Successful applicants will be helping to provide the best possible service to their community and will be trained to national firefighter standard.
“We’re looking for people from all walks of life with a combination of practical bility, mental resilience, courage, physical fitness and the ability to remain calm and focused in emergency and difficult situations.
“Qualifications aren’t necessary, applicants just need to be at least 18 years old, physically and medically fit with good hearing, eyesight, enthusiasm and common sense. I would definitely recommend that anyone who is thinking of applying should come along to one of the taster days as they are a fantastic way of getting a real feel for the job.”
Potential recruits also need to be able to report to their fire station within five minutes of home or work and have a real interest in the fire and rescue service and helping in the community. The role attracts an average income in the region of £5000 a year.
