WARRINGTON-based Wire Gymnastics Club has secured a share of £10 million  National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.
The club will received £20,036 to install much-needed heating which will ensure the club can continue to offer a programme of gymnastics for all right through the autumn and winter.
In addition, The club will receive funding for a gymnastics pit which will allow the on-going development and improvement of the gymnasts’ skills as well as further enhance the safe environment in which the gymnasts  practice and compete.
Wire Gymnastics Club was founded in July 2009 based in a local community centre, with just a handful of members.
Today the club has its own facility at Birchwood with hundreds of members and is fully accredited from British Gymnastics with GymMark and ClubMark schemes which it received in March 2011.
Since 2011, Inspired Facilities has been helping breathe new life into tired community sports facilities and converting existing buildings into venues suitable for grassroots sport.
Sport England property director Charles Johnston, said: “The Inspired Facilities Fund has had a huge impact on grassroots sport across the country. Since 2011, we’ve invested £94 million into more than 1,800 projects to improve and refurbish sports clubs and transform non-sporting venues into vibrant community sports clubs.
“It’s great to see The Wire Gymnastics Club join the long list of successful clubs to benefit from this fund.”
Club head coach Ema Doherty said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which will make such a difference to the club and the experience for all our gymnasts. To have heating in the gym will mean we can continue to offer sessions for all, from pre-school to our squad gymnasts all through the year. It will also mean we can continue to develop our programme with local schools. The investment in a gymnastics pit will mean we can develop new skills and enjoy further success as a club”
