Motorist airlifted to hospital after five vehicle collision on M6

UPDATED: THE air ambulance was called to lift one person to hospital following a five vehicle collision which closed the M6 at Thelwall Viaduct in both directions this morning.

Fire and rescue crews are at the scene of the road traffic collision which took place in the fourth lane of the north bound carriageway between junctions 21 and 21A on M6.

One person was trapped in one of the vehicles and firefighters set up equipment to carry out a full roof removal of the vehicle. The person was airlifted to hospital in the air ambulance.

The motorway was closed in both directions and another passenger was transported to hospital by ambulance.

The motorway has now re-opened.
