“Friends” launch Walton estate projects

FOUR new projects are being launched by the Friends of Walton Estate.
Mayor and Mayoress of Warrington, Cllr and Mrs Geoff Settle will officially open the schemes this saturday (Oct 17), accompanied by other councillors and officers and members of the Friends.
Main project is the Friends Gate which re-opens a route through the arch in the Heritage Yard, used in the past for moving horses between two main stable areas.
The borough council took responsibility for restoring the path which leads to the Sensory Gardens and the Friends have started recreating these raised beds.
Two other schemes being launched at the same time to increase income are the Tree Adoption Scheme and the Stables Gallery, which include a collection of photographs taken by Friends’ member Andy Gilbert.
The Gallery has been restored in a joint project by the council and the Friends.
The Tree Adoption Scheme runs in parallel with the Animal Adoption Scheme and gives visitors a chance to make a contribution to the estate by adopting a favourite tree.
It is expected to prove popular with people who have known the estate for many years and have special memories of particular trees.
Full details of all the Friends initiatives can be found on their website www.fowe.btck.co.uk
The Friends are now seeking new members to help with further exciting projects.
