Cheerleading group strikes gold

A WARRINGTON-based cheerleading group has struck gold after winning a top regional prize.
Knights American Cheer, a not for profit cheerleading, dance and tumble club, beat of stiff competition from various clubs across the North West to pick up a prize of £500 in the regional round of the Miller Homes Summer of Sport contest.
Judges were looking for examples of how the sporting clubs in each community would make the most out of the donation, how the cash boost would directly support the learning and fitness of its members and specific examples of how the money would be used.
The judging panel, which included Preston North End FC’s Chris Humphreys agreed that Knights American Cheer were worthy winners in the North West region as they’re looking to raise money for new equipment and a gym refurbishment that includes a new sprung floor which will help improve how coaches and athletes are able to train.
Chris Humphrey commented: “It was great to see such strong entries from across the North West and to know that the money is going to be put to such good use.  Supporting grass roots and community based sport is critical for success in later life.”
Angeline Rees from Knights American Cheer adds: “As each season progresses so do the skills and abilities of the athletes and that’s why it is so critical that we have the right equipment to help them reach their full potential.”
