WHILE thousands of runners from across the country were taking part in the English Half Marathon in Warrington a 49-year-old school teacher from Warrington was winning the 2015 Chesterfield Marathon.
Caroline Hemming, who is a member of the 100 Marathon Club, ran her 125th marathon on Sunday in an impressive 3:15:58. She came home almost six minutes ahead of the second-placed athlete, Emma Diggle, who crossed the line in 3.21.20.
Caroline, who has run 125 marathons since taking up running in the late 1980s, said: “I love running marathons. I started running in 1988 but I didn’t run my first marathon until 2006.
“I decided to join the 100 marathon club and I’ve now run 125, including Blackpool and London.
“I came second in a marathon the other week and really wanted to come first this time, so thankfully I managed it!”
More than 1,000 runners took to the streets of Chesterfield to take part in the race, which was organised by specialist children’s cancer charity Kids ‘n’ Cancer and was one of the biggest mass participation events in the town.
Father-of-one David Taylor, 36, from Chesterfield, won the men’s race in 2.55:11 to narrowly pip runner-up Jonathan Godfrey, from City of Hull Athletics Club (2:55:12).
