WARRINGTON’S annual English Half Marathon has been hailed a huge success with 5,000 entrants taking to the streets on a brand new route finishing at the iconic Golden Gates.
This year’s event, the seventh, was a sell out and made extra special by being won by local runner Daniel Cliffe in a time of 01:07:44.
Now Rob Griffiths, organiser of The English Half Marathon, has pledged to continue the record growth of 2015.
Warrington based race director Rob said: “It’s been a fantastic day. It’s the culmination of a lot of training for the runners, and a lot of hard work from the team. The Golden Gates finish has been something I’ve wanted to do for a few years, and it was really worth the wait. I hope the runners agree, this year was really something memorable.”
Starting at 9am, the Half Marathon and 10k races took in all the landmarks of Warrington, ending in a spectacular finish through the iconic Golden Gates. Seventy per cent of runners came to the race from outside of Warrington, with 5% of those coming from overseas to participate. The English Half Marathon formed part of the month-long Warrington Festival.
Warrington runner, Daniel Cliffe brought home the win for the men in the Half Marathon with Felicity Milton, of German Running Club – Team Memmert, clinching the win for the ladies in an impressive 01:21:06.
Having sold out in the days leading up to the race, demand for the race is high, with English Half Marathon showing continued growth in recent years.
“The journey we have taken over the last few years has been staggering. In 2012 we were a 1,200 entrant race within the local calendar. Today we had over 3 times that amount, with over 5 languages being spoken on the start line; just incredible!’

Fantastic event for putting Warrington on the map – although a few traffic problems getting across town.
