SUPER League referee Robert Hicks has stepped in to officiate in a rugby league world record attempt featuring a host of former Warrington Wolves stars.

Lee Briers, Adrian Morley, Garreth Carvell Mike Wainwright and Alan Hunte are part of a group of 38 that will climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds and awareness of the Steve Prescott Foundation.

On their way up, they will attempt to set a new Guinness Book of World Record of highest altitude rugby league match.

For that, they need an RFL international referee, and Hicks has stepped in following the late withdrawal of Steve Ganson.

Former referee Ganson, from St Helens, was forced to withdraw following a change to his role within the RFL.

An SPF spokesperson said: “It’s really great to welcome Robert Hicks to the climbing party and the SPF is very thankful to Robert and his family for agreeing to Robert stepping forward to join in this unique challenge.

The climb takes place in October.
