LYMM Oughtrington Park Cricket Club – currently top of the TACS Partnership Cheshire League division two – is to hold an open day at its Oughtrington Lane ground on Sunday, September 6.
The event, sponsored by Waitrose, will start at 11am and continue until 6pm.
In the morning there will be family fun cricket, with boys and girls and Mums and Dads and in the afternoon a Twenty20 exhibition match between the chairman’s XI and an Overseas XI.
Lymm’s star players will be on view.
Food will be prepared on an Aussie-manned barbecue and members of the public are invited to turn up and meet members and try out the facilities – including a bowling machine set up in the outdoor net facility.
A club spokesman said: “Come along and celebrate the Ashes win with us.”
Lymm Oughtrington Park are 35 points clear of their nearest rival in the league table which means they are well placed for promotion to the first division after one of their most successful seasons for years.
The club dates from at least 1884 and its ground is unique in Cheshire in that it has a 100-year-old beech tree within the playing area.
Local rules give the batsman four runs if he hits the tree!
