MORE than 45 stone has been shed by local men attending the 12 week Fit to Tackle weight loss and fitness programme with the help of LiveWire and Warrington Wolves.

The men started their weight loss journey back in February, training three times a week, with assistance from LiveWire’s Health and Wellbeing Advisors and fitness professionals from the Warrington Wolves.

Michael Titchard, from Oxford, was the biggest “loser” from the group, losing a staggering 21kg and 16% body fat over the 12 week period.

He said: “I can’t believe the positive affect Fit to Tackle has had on my life. I never used to exercise and couldn’t keep the weight from creeping on.

“Joining the programme gave me a new lease of life, now; I actually enjoy exercising three times a week and eating healthy meals. I’ve made some great friends from the course and we’ve all promised each other to continue exercising now the course has finished.”

The Fit to Tackle programme has been deemed a major success, with 25 out of the 44 participants achieving a 5% weight loss or more.

Monday evenings consisted of different fitness sessions and a health education talk at the Halliwell Jones Stadium Stadium.

On Wednesday evenings, the men competed in friendly Touch Rugby sessions at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub, while Saturday mornings were based back at the stadium to focus on fitness and strengthening.

LiveWire’s Health and Wellbeing Advisor Paul Corless said: “The first Fit to Tackle programme has come to an end, over 35 strangers have gone through an incredible fitness journey experiencing tough training sessions, fun banter and great determination.

“The lads have worked together and lost a grand total of 45 stone in body fat; the weight of three Warrington Wolves players!

“I feel very proud of what they have achieved; it’s inspirational to watch the encouragement and motivation they have given each other when times got hard.”
