Police, ambulance and fire services were alerted after the fully clothed woman, believed to be middle aged, was seen waist deep in the water at around 13.20pm today.

She was led to safety by two fire officers and was then taken away in an ambulance and is believed to have been suffering from mental health problems.

It is unclear at this stage how she came to be in the water, but eye witnesses described her as “being confused.”
