Social media helps Apprenticeships search

WARRINGTON Borough Council has been using social media to spread the word about National Apprenticeship Week.
Throughout the week, the careers for young people’s service has been promoting messages on Twitter and Facebook and sign-pointing youngsters to where they can find support and more information.
The team is available all year round to help young people with the next steps in their education, employment or training, and regularly promotes apprenticeships and careers events across the town.
Cllr Terry O’Neill (pictured), leader of the council, said: “The council has been leading the way when it comes to apprenticeships and has a history of supporting apprenticeships and other training initiatives, particularly for young people leaving education. We recognise that a well-trained and qualified local workforce is the backbone to the town’s prospects and success and are really keen to encourage apprenticeships as they provide a great grounding.

“I myself started as an apprentice in Warrington many years ago and it gave me a good foundation for my career so I’d recommend anyone looking for a foot in the door to think about one. We have recruited a number of apprentices over the last couple of years, many of whom have stayed with us, and we hope to be able to offer more opportunities in the future.”
The careers team helped Sam Vernon, 17, secure his apprenticeship at Weldspares Ltd, Warrington.
Sam said: “I can’t thank the careers for young people’s service enough. I went to them wanting an apprenticeship and they knew exactly what I needed to do, but they didn’t leave it there. They gave me help with my applications, tips for what I should do and shouldn’t do at interview and even phoned me to congratulate me when I got one. As for my apprenticeship, it’s the best ever!”
