A MOTORIST was caught travelling at 57mph in a 30mph zone area at Frodsham.
The incident was in High Street while police were carrying out a speedwatch operation. PCSO Neil Flanagan said: “It was the fastest I have ever seen anyone driving in a 30mph area.
“But later on the same day, another driver was checked at 53mph.” Police have carried out Speedwatch checks on a number of roads in Frodsham in recent weeks, including Fluin Lane, Manley Road and Main Street. They have also starting training volunteers for a Community Speed Watch.
So far, 13 people have come forward and undergone training and another training session is due to take place on January 24. PCSO Flanagan said in their first session on duty, the volunteers had caught 48 drivers travelling at more than 34mph and all the offenders had been sent warning letters.
He added: “It has been a big success. “But the real success will be when they don’t catch anyone, because that will mean drivers have learned the lesson and are no longer speeding.”
