A WOMAN, aged 38, was one of the two people killed in a four vehicle pile-up on the M56 near Frodsham yesterday, police said today.
She was from St Helens and her family have been notified. But the dead man – who was in a different vehicle – has still not been formally identified.
Two lorries, a bus with no passengers on it and a private car were involved in the horror crash on the eastbound carriageway yesterday afternoon.
The motorway was completely closed for a while and even late last night there were lane closures on the eastbound carriageway.
Today, however, the motorway is operating as normal.
Police are in the process of contacting the relatives of the two fatalities.
There was heavy congestion on the motorway, the A56 and other roads in the area all afternoon while emergency crews worked to clear wreckage from the motorway.
Tailbacks of traffic affected the Warrington area, particularly during the evening rush-hour.
Police praised motorists for their patience during the operation
