TV celebrity Karren Brady, often described as the “first lady of football” visited a number of Frodsham’s enterprises to give advice in her role as Small Business Ambassador to the Government.

The former Birmingham City MD and Star of BBC TV’s The Apprentice, who is now vice-chairman of West Ham United, was given a tour of town centre by Mayor Sara Wakefield and MP Graham Evans. She visited Rowlands Solicitors, Gift Shop on the Corner, Devonshire Bakery, Les Harris Jewellers and Cowards butchers after being invited to the town by the Weaver Vale MP.

During her visit she praised the role small business owners have in the community. She said: “I think a lot of people have lost some trust in big business and the banks. One of the really important things for me and my role is to raise the profile of small business owners,” she said.

“The feeling towards big business owners is not as good as it could be, but often with small business owners, there is much better personal service and good work in the local community.

Mr Evans said he hoped Karren’s visit demonstrated that the Government supports small businesses and inspired others launch their own ventures. He said businesses were the life blood of the local economy and it is great to be able to show Karren the variety of successful businesses in the area.
