WARRINGTON Borough Council’s adoption and fostering services are the focus of a new documentary television series.
Titled “15,000 Kids and Counting” the three part documentary on Channel Four looks at the complex process of adoption and fostering and gives an insight into the challenges that face families and social workers.
The first episode was broadcast last night and focused on the adoption decision being made and subsequent programmes will be on April 10 and 17.
Warrington’s shared adoption service with neighbouring authorities Wigan and St Helens, WWiSH features heavily in the films along with staff from the council’s targeted services department, foster carers, parents, and children.
Cllr Hitesh Patel (pictured), the council’s lead member for children’s services, said: “We have seen the footage and are very pleased. The job of a social worker is extremely complex and the film shows that, and the hard work they put in. It has been a long process taking part in the filming and a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes but we are glad to be part of something which will shed light on a very complicated and sensitive process.
“Since its formation, WWiSH has had a lot of success and has supported the adoption process for many families however there is still a shortage of adopters and we need people to consider it. We are absolutely committed to finding forever families for our children in care and hope this extra coverage encourages people to get in touch if they think they could provide a loving home for a child.”
