Big Jubilee Lunch

Planners delay licensed bar decision

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are to visit the site of a proposed licensed bar after hearing that two councillors are opposed to the scheme.
The bar would be at first-floor level above a small shopping complex adjoining the former Cross Bar pub in Lovely Lane, Bewsey.
The building has not been used since a fire in 2011.
Work is said to have already started on converting the former storage area.
Warrington Borough Council’s planning committee decided to defer a decision on the application to allow time to visit the site after hearing of objections from Cllr Pat Wright and Cllr Steve Parish.
The two councillors say the development would create a noise problem for adjacent buildings, there would be a lack of parking space, a loss of storage space for shops which already have planning consent and a risk of fire.
The area proposed for use as a licensed bar currently has permission for use as storage space.
Officers are recommending the scheme be approved.
