DOG owners queued up to have their pets micro chipped at a free sessions organised by Warrington Borough Council and the Dogs Trust – the UK’s largest dog welfare charity.
On the day 93 dogs came through the door and 79 dogs were micro chipped and six neutering vouchers were issued.
Cllr David Keane, the council’s member for environment and public protection at the council, said: “By April 2016 all dogs in the UK will have to be micro-chipped by law and we held the session to help residents get started. From the centre opening its’ doors at 9.30am it was
none stop and at 3pm when the centre was due to close dog owners were still queuing out the door.
“We’re delighted so many came on the day and well done to all the staff
involved in making it such a success.”
Michelle Moat, North of England campaigns co-ordinator for the Dogs Trust, said: “We were delighted to work with Warrington Borough Council on this initiative and we’re so pleased by the public response to it. The charity works hard to promote responsible dog ownership and believes that micro-chipping and neutering are key elements of this.
“Micro-chipping is a simple procedure which could mean the difference
between being reunited with a lost pet and never seeing them again, while neutering has a number of health benefits. We are really look forward to working with the council on future events.”
