MP drops in for tea

HELEN Jones MP dropped in on Iddon’s Tearoom (Pat’s Cafe) in Poulton South to celebrate the contribution small businesses in Warrington make to the local economy.
She wanted to see how trade was going at the bustling little business on Bruche Heath Gardens in the run-up to Christmas.
The Warrington North MP was given a warm welcome from owners Leanne and Chris Iddon, who took time out of their busy day to give her an insight into the work involved in running a local, independent, business.
Ms Jones’ visit was part of the UK’s first-ever Small Business Saturday – a grass roots campaign that encourages people to shop locally and support small businesses in the local community.
The MP said: “Local people have told me how much they care about our town, particularly the small and independent businesses such as Pat’s Cafe that add to the character of Warrington.
“People value the service and choice they get from smaller cafes and shops which is why I want to celebrate the contribution they make to local communities and that’s why I’m so pleased we are having the inaugural Small Business Saturday.”
Pat’s Cafe owes its name to Chris’ mother who previously owned the establishment. But as Iddon’s Catering and Tearoom it also caters for external events including christenings, weddings and funerals.
Leanne said: “We were really pleased to welcome Helen Jones to Pat’s Cafe and have the opportunity to share our insight with her. Running a small business is hard work and involves very long hours, but it’s gratifying to be such a part of the local community. People in the area know that they can pop in at any time and see a friendly face, and everyone is welcome.”
